Shanghai, now the most populous city in the world, captivates with a combination unique in Asia of state-of-the-art skyscrapers and magnificent European-style colonial buildings reflected in them. In fact, the city is characterised by exciting contrasts, both in its external form and internally. I have taken up this principle in my Shanghai Odyssey, in the sense of a musical translation of Shanghai’s mega-urbanity. In its external architecture, my piece consists of five symmetrically arranged chapters, while its internal structure consists of constantly varying harmonic condensations and rhythmic patterns that move in a permanent, progressive flow.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
