Die Jahreszeiten
VISION OF THE WORK
Die Jahreszeiten – The Seasons
Rain, Fog, Heat, Hail
for solo cello and string orchestra
Unlike in Vivaldi’s famous original, the seasons in my work, should they even last longer, do not have a clear separation or distinct changes between them, but rather paint a contemporary, darker picture of the climate change surrounding us. Thus, summer is not only radiant, spring is not the beginning of new life, autumn is not grey and rainy, and winter is not only bright white.
Each season will also carry something of the others within it and be linked to them sonically.
The solo cello traverses all these soundscapes of the seasonal climate as a silent witness, changing soundscapes and rhythmic structures that constantly hold a rapid change of environment in store, which makes the pull of the musical narrative seem even more intense. The solo cello immerses itself, resists, is carried away and always tries to keep its encouraging voice.
My seasons shed light on their evolution from today’s perspective, musically calling for courage, for the necessity to stand together and strong against the changes we are experiencing and thus against climate change.
Total length of the work approx. 25 min.
