lautlos – for cello solo
VISION OF THE WORK
‘Lautlos’ (Silent) was composed in the context of Christian Jost’s choral opera Angst – 5 Pforten (Fear – 5 Gates), a journey into the depths of fear. Like the opera, ‘Lautlos’ is based on a mood of uncertainty, searching, even resignation on the one hand, and desperate, rebellious outbursts on the other. The work’s linguistic diction is reminiscent of a captivating monologue, taking the listener on a journey through a fascinating world of sound.
In lautlos, the violoncello is presented in all its tonal nuances. The first note alone runs through all facets of the sound spectrum. From a virtually inaudible beginning, the sound develops into something almost noisy. In many places throughout the work, innovative sound sculptures can be heard, but they always serve the music and are integrated into the musical development.
