Metamorphoses of four sound elements from Beethoven’s, Bruckner’s and Mahler’s Ninth Symphonies and Schubert’s ‘Unfinished’
In this orchestral work, Christian Jost deals with the theme of transition, both as a phase within a musical work and as a phenomenon in music history. To this end, he has selected four excerpts from the slow movements of important late works and placed them in a new, contemporary context: sound figures from the Ninth Symphonies by Beethoven, Bruckner and Mahler, as well as from Schubert’s Unfinished Symphony. He does not use main motifs, but instead weaves the melodic and harmonic material of a transitional passage into a new ‘music of transition’.
